The public relations department at the college of media held a virtual seminar on media legislation and cybercrimes in social media delivered by Dr. Hassan Abdul Hadi via Google Meet service. The lecturer discussed the increase of online defamation offences that denote any statement that hurts someone’s reputation that can be used as a way of bargaining people for the purpose of job or electoral competition, as well as the publication of personal data or images that people do not agree to be public. The attendees expressed their points of view on this topic and recommended the need for activating the role of the judiciary in reducing these cybercrimes and encouraging extensive research in this field in postgraduate studies.
