Prof. Dr. Munir Hamid al-Saadi, rector of the University of Baghdad, representing His Excellency the minister of higher education and scientific research, Prof. Dr. Nabil Kazem Abdul Sahib, has inaugurated recently the proceedings of the second international scientific conference held by Samarra Heritage Center under the slogan “Imam al-Hassan al-Askari (PBUH): The legacy of prophecy and imamate”, in collaboration with the college of Islamic sciences at the University of Baghdad and the participation of 24 Iraqi universities and under the auspices of Al-Askariein Holy Shrine.
During his speech, Dr. Munir al-Saadi stated that this conference aimed to introduce the scientific and moral heritage of Imam al-Hassan al-Askari (peace be upon him) related to the current time based on the Islamic heritage as well as to highlight his approach to peaceful coexistence and to clarify the high moral lessons learned from his biography and the people of his house. Also he tried to shed light on the features of Al-Askariein School and its jurisprudential heritage which has contributed for decades to the intellectual and ideological convergence of Muslims.
Dr. Munir al-Saadi also pointed out the importance of showing the spiritual values of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and the need for introducing the world to the historical and civilized status of the city of Samarra, adding that such academic events can promote the national cohesion, spreading knowledge and communication in service of the good common. The conference witnessed the presentation of 132 out of 203 research papers that discussed some Qur’anic, doctrinal, linguistic and literary studies along with a range of collected traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The participants then stressed the role played by the Islamic heritage, religious tourism and historical monuments in filling the gap between comparative religions, educational, social, legal and other disciplines. It is worth mentioning that Samarra Heritage Center is a research center affiliated with the Al-Askariein Holy Shrine, specializes in studying the heritage of the city of Samarra and its holy Imams (PBUT) according to the legacy of prophecy and imamate that represents a noble message and a human necessity to keep pace with the requirements of the times.
