Towards a Comprehensive Medical University City

Professor Dr. Alaa Abdul Hassan Al-Zughaybi, President of the University of Baghdad, held a virtual meeting with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), attended by Dr. Samer Mubarak, Deputy Chairman of the Advisory Board, the university’s Vice Presidents for Scientific and Administrative Affairs, several department directors, and Mr. Zaid Badi, JICA’s Program Officer in Iraq.

The discussions focused on avenues of support and financing for the planned Medical University City to be established on University of Baghdad land in Al-Rafiel, Al-Amiriya. Both sides examined potential funding opportunities through JICA to ensure the project’s implementation in line with the latest global standards.

President Al-Zughaybi underscored the strategic importance of this initiative, highlighting its role in advancing medical education and scientific research, while also providing vital healthcare services to the community.

It is noteworthy that during its nineteenth session, the University of Baghdad Council approved the establishment of a fully integrated Medical University City in Al-Amiriya. The project is envisioned as a leading academic and healthcare hub, encompassing medical colleges, health sciences faculties, teaching hospitals, and specialized research and treatment centers, serving both higher education and the surrounding community.
