The College of Pharmacy at the University of Baghdad organized its annual “Design Day” event, a scientific and creative showcase that witnessed wide participation from undergraduate and postgraduate students. The event was attended by Professor Dr. Suhail Najm Abdullah, Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs, and Professor Dr. Sarmad Hashem Al-Khatib, Dean of the College.

The exhibition aimed to break away from traditional methods of presenting research by transforming scientific outputs and academic projects into marketable models. It focused on highlighting the economic value of pharmaceutical innovations and on demonstrating how laboratory ideas can be converted into pioneering projects that serve both the health and industrial sectors.

The exhibition halls featured distinguished displays of scientific posters and innovative designs presented by students, blending the precision of pharmaceutical sciences with the creativity of design. The participation of both undergraduate and postgraduate students fostered an interactive environment for knowledge transfer and the development of presentation and scientific marketing skills.

The College’s administration emphasized that this activity is part of the university’s plan to transition towards becoming a “productive university.” The objective, they noted, is not merely to present results, but to prepare pharmacists equipped with design-thinking skills and the ability to convince economic institutions of the value of Iraqi scientific innovation.

The exhibits included prototypes for pharmaceutical packaging, designs for educational pharmaceutical platforms, medicinal and cosmetic products, and awareness booklets on certain diseases and methods of treatment and prevention. In addition, specialized research in pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy, and toxicology was presented in simplified formats to make it accessible to both investors and the general public.

This activity contributes to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal 3 (Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages), Goal 4 (Quality education), Goal 9 (Industry, innovation, and infrastructure), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the goals).
