The University of Baghdad Council convened its thirteenth session for the 2025–2026 academic year to deliberate on several administrative and academic matters related to advancing the institution’s organizational development.
At the outset of the meeting, the Council Chair instructed all deans of the university’s faculties to finalize their closing accounts, ensuring the disbursement of financial entitlements to university staff in accordance with approved administrative procedures.
The Council also underscored the importance of supporting and activating the work of Women’s Affairs Units across the university’s faculties, with a view to enhancing their activities and reinforcing the role of women in academic and institutional life.
In the area of administrative data management, the Council emphasized the need to complete the verification of staff records on the Ministry’s land platform, thereby ensuring the accuracy and updating of information pertaining to university employees.
On the academic front, the Council tasked the Departments of Scientific Affairs and Quality Assurance and University Performance with monitoring the university’s global ranking, analyzing the data and indicators used in international classifications, and providing the Presidency with the necessary information to meet the minimum standards required for such rankings.
The Council further directed all faculties to adhere strictly to the timelines set forth in the academic calendar issued by the Ministry, thereby safeguarding the regularity of the educational process.
In support of scientific research, the Council urged faculty deans to strengthen research activity within their units by forming specialized research teams that contribute to advancing scientific and scholarly output.
Additionally, the Council instructed faculty deans to invite editors-in-chief or directors of academic journals to attend college council meetings, in order to monitor journal procedures and develop roadmaps for their inclusion in international indexing databases or for raising their scientific standing. Monthly reports on these measures are to be submitted to the Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance.
As part of environmental sustainability initiatives, the Council assigned several faculties and centers—including the College of Engineering, the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, the Center for Urban and Regional Planning for Graduate Studies, and the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology—to prepare documented audiovisual materials highlighting their achievements in the fields of environment and sustainability. These efforts will culminate in the organization of an environmental festival addressing ecological issues, coordinated among the designated units.
This activity contributes to the realization of several Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 5 (Gender Equality), Goal 15 (Life on Land), Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
