The College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad honored the first-place winner in the Short Film Competition, held as part of the events of the “Baghdad, Capital of Arab Tourism 2025” Festival. The award for the short film was presented to student Mahdi Essam in recognition of his excellence in artistic and creative aspects.

The celebration was sponsored by the Dean of the College, Prof.Dr. Ammar Taher Karam, who presented the award in the presence of several faculty members. Dr. Ammar expressed his pride in the student’s outstanding achievement, affirming that “the university’s full support reflects a clear vision to elevate youth creativity in the fields of art and media, particularly in university-level cinematic production.”

In turn, Mahdi Essam, the first-place winner, expressed his gratitude for this unique moment, considering it a significant milestone in his academic and creative journey. He added, “This award is a great motivation to continue in the field of short filmmaking and to further develop my directing and cinematography skills in service of contemporary Iraqi storytelling.”

It is worth noting that the competition witnessed notable participation from students of the College of Mass Communication. It was also announced that Rahma Kashkoul, from the “Taq Kasra” team, secured second place, while the third place went to student Rafal Atef for her film “Baghdad, My Favorite Dance.”

This activity supports one of the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 4 (Quality Education).
