The University of Baghdad organized a commemorative stand on the anniversary of the genocide committed against members of the Yazidi community on August 3, 2014 a tragedy regarded as one of the most horrific crimes against humanity in modern times.
This observance, which saw the participation of university faculty and staff, was held under the direction of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It reaffirmed the academic institution’s ethical and humanitarian commitment to opposing violence and extremism while promoting justice and tolerance.
In his address during the event, Prof.Dr. Bahaa Ibraheem Ansaf, President of the University of Baghdad, stated: “Today, we gather not only to remember the pain but also to honor the victims and to send a message that what happened will never be forgotten, and that justice is a right that does not expire over time.”
Prof.Dr. Ansaf emphasized that the role of the university extends beyond education and scientific research; it includes promoting the values of peace, recognizing cultural diversity, and instilling the principles of peaceful coexistence in future generations.
At the conclusion of the event, the University of Baghdad administration expressed its deep appreciation for the participation of faculty and staff, affirming that such meaningful involvement reflects the university community’s strong sense of national awareness and deep humanitarian commitment to issues of justice and human rights.
This activity contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including: Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions , and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
