As part of efforts to strengthen institutional partnerships between universities and state institutions, a delegation from the University of Baghdad visited the Ministry of Environment to explore areas of joint cooperation on environmental and developmental issues, and to discuss mechanisms for implementing the provisions of the National Initiative to Support Energy and Reduce Emissions.
The delegation was headed by Prof.Dr. Raghad Abdulrazzaq Al-Hashemi, Vice President for Administrative Affairs, accompanied by Prof. Omar Faez, Director of the Department of Quality Assurance and Academic Performance, and Dr. Rana Mawlood, a member of the university’s team for the National Initiative to Support Energy and Reduce Emissions. They were received by Dr. Jassim Al-Falahi, the Technical Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Environment.
During the meeting, both sides discussed scientific and technical cooperation mechanisms for implementing the strategic steps of the initiative within the university environment. This includes exchanging expertise and activating applied research to address environmental challenges identified in reports from the Ministry of Environment, in alignment with the objectives of Iraq’s national strategy for confronting climate change.
The discussions also included organizing joint awareness workshops and implementing practical projects, such as studying the feasibility of installing solar energy systems within the university as a step toward transitioning to clean energy, as well as providing sensors for monitoring air quality, which could be utilized in postgraduate research.
This initiative aligns with the University of Baghdad’s broader direction to enhance institutional integration in areas of national priority and to contribute to global goals related to environmental sustainability, clean energy, and emission reduction.
The activity supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Goal 13 (Climate Action), Goal 15 (Life on Land), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
