Today, the University Athletics Championship commenced at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences in the Jadriya Complex at Baghdad University, featuring participation from over 70 private and public universities across Iraq. The event was attended by Professor Dr. Sabah Qasim Khalaf, Dean of the College, and Mr. Murtadha Qasim, Director of the Sports Division at the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority of the Ministry of Higher Education, in a highly competitive and enthusiastic atmosphere.
The first day of competitions saw Baghdad University students securing top positions in various athletic events, adding several medals to the university’s tally an achievement that reflects the high level of performance demonstrated by the participating athletes.
Dr. Ali Sadiq, Director of the Student Activities Department, praised the athletic prowess displayed by students of the university, emphasizing the importance of such championships in developing sports skills and fostering a spirit of competition among universities.
The final results of the championship are set to be announced tomorrow, as hopes remain high for our talented athletes to achieve even more remarkable victories, reaffirming their ability to compete strongly across various events.
This activity contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 17, which focuses on partnerships for achieving global objectives, particularly by supporting academic activities within the university and its affiliated institutions in pursuit of sustainable development goals.
