Baghdad University held an extensive meeting with the President of Iran’s Sharif University of Technology, Professor Abbas Mousavi, in preparation for launching the Scientific Park project. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister’s Entrepreneurship Program Advisor Hussein Falamarz, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Scientific Affairs, Professor Haider Abdul-Dahd, and Baghdad University President, Professor Bahaa Ibraheem Insaf.
The collaboration between the two universities aims to establish a Technology and Innovation Park at Baghdad University, achieving technological advancements in healthcare, agriculture, and energy. Additionally, it seeks to implement research and development projects in partnership with major companies, strengthening ties between the university and the private sector.
The meeting included a detailed presentation on Sharif University of Technology’s innovation ecosystem model and an overview of Baghdad University’s ambitious program to create an integrated environment that supports innovation and entrepreneurship, contributing to sustainable development and the knowledge economy.
During the discussions, the operational plan for the first phase of the project was reviewed, featuring the establishment of business accelerators, a startup incubator, and three innovation centers in promising universities. The two sides also agreed to build mentorship networks for entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as to create a joint fund to support entrepreneurial ventures.
Both parties emphasized the significance of this scientific cooperation in transferring expertise and enhancing research capabilities, benefiting students and researchers while reinforcing Baghdad University’s position as a leading innovation hub in the region.
This meeting supports multiple Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal 2, which aims to end hunger, achieve food security, and promote sustainable agriculture; Goal 3, which ensures healthy lives and well-being for all ages; Goal 4, which advocates for quality education; Goal 7, which promotes affordable and clean energy; Goal 9, which focuses on industry, innovation, and infrastructure; and Goal 17, which emphasizes partnerships for achieving sustainable objectives.
