The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Baghdad hosted the first Arab Championship for Mental Arithmetic and Memory in Iraq, with delegations from ten Arab countries participating. This event was held within the framework of the Iraqi government’s program launched to support innovation and mental abilities among Arab youth.
The tournament, organized by the International Creative Development Center (IDC), in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, and a number of educational institutions interested in developing mental abilities, will witness strong competition among participants who seek to highlight their skills in rapid arithmetic and memory improvement techniques.
In a speech during the conference, Iraqi Minister of Education Ibrahim Al-Jubouri said that the Iraqi government is working to support youth and student energies in preparation for building a generation that enjoys innovation and advanced capabilities, pointing out that the tournament contributes to the development of flexibility of the mind and the ability of the student to think feat and develop mental abilities in advanced scientific ways.
The Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Prof. Dr. Sabah Qasim Khalaf, stressed that the University of Baghdad is keen to host such events, which come in the context of enhancing scientific communication between Arab countries, and providing a competitive environment that encourages the development of intelligence and mental skills among children and youth.
It is noteworthy that this tournament is one of the leading events that promote a culture of innovation and mental excellence in the Arab world and encourages the exchange of experiences between competitors and trainers from different countries.
This activity achieves one of the sustainable development goals represented by the fourth and seventeenth goals, which call for quality education as well as partnership to achieve the goals.
