The University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Department of Student Activities in the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, held the second international road race for running, with the wide participation of sports activity departments in 74 Iraqi universities and a number of universities from Syria, Lebanon, Iran and Jordan, and in the presence of the Assistant President of the University of Baghdad for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Suhail Najm Abdullah, the Assistant President of the University of Baghdad for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Amir Faisal Abdul Amir, and Dr. Ammar Al-Zubaidi, Director of the Student Activities Department in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The activities included a 5-kilometer race for females and 10 kilometers for males. The race witnessed strong competition between young athletes from various local and regional universities, giving the event a distinctive international character. It contributed to raising the morale of the athletes. Dr. Ammar Al-Zubaidi, Director of the Student Activities Department at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, praised the distinguished results achieved by the University of Baghdad and the sports forums it holds, especially the international road race, which has become one of the international championships accredited at the university.
The festival concluded with the crowning of the Mustansiriya University team in first place, the University of Karbala team in second place, and the University of Baghdad in third place, and the result was in favor of the female team from the University of Kirkuk first, the University of Diyala second and the University of Baghdad in third place, as this event aims to promote the spirit of peace and methods of attention to public health and encourage students to adopt an active lifestyle.
This event comes within the directions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the University of Baghdad to open up to international educational institutions through sports to serve the educational process and our country Iraq.
