The President of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hassan Atiyah Hassan, participated virtually in the 2026 University Presidents’ Meeting (UPM), organized by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), with the participation of university presidents and leaders, representatives of the United Nations, and academic institutions from Europe, the Middle East, and Central and South Asia.
The meeting discussed the role of higher education institutions in accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, strengthening regional and international cooperation, and reinforcing the link between science and policymaking. It also examined institutional strategies for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the use of modern technologies in developing higher education, scientific research, and innovation.
The President of the University of Baghdad affirmed the importance of the University’s participation in such international platforms, given the opportunities they provide for exchanging expertise and building partnerships with universities worldwide. He noted the mother university’s commitment to supporting scientific research and innovation and linking them to the Sustainable Development Goals, thereby enhancing its role in providing scientific solutions to local and international challenges.
This activity supports the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal Four, which calls for quality education, as well as Goal Seventeen, concerning partnerships for achieving the goals.
