The College of Pharmacy at the University of Baghdad, in collaboration with the Voluntary Work Support Committee and the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, organized an educational workshop titled “Towards Broader Horizons: Empowering the Visually Impaired and Highlighting Their Role in Society.” The workshop was delivered by Dr. Hadeel Khairallah Al-Shammari, Vice President of the Basira Cultural Organization for the Care of the Visually Impaired.
The workshop aimed to shed light on how to interact with blind individuals, both on an individual level and as part of society.
The session covered the psychological and social challenges faced by the visually impaired, in addition to discussing the importance of fostering effective communication with them and providing appropriate support across various fields. The workshop also reviewed methods of integrating the blind into daily activities, such as education and work, and how to enhance their living environment through the use of assistive technologies.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the Dean presented Mr. Sabah Al-Miyahi, the head of the Basira Foundation, with a financial donation collected from voluntary contributions in support of the organization. This gesture reaffirmed his humanitarian commitment to supporting the foundation’s efforts in providing services and assistance to the blind and in enhancing their active role in society. In turn, the head of the foundation presented the Dean with a gratitude plaque in recognition of his significant contributions to supporting its initiatives and his dedication to improving the lives of the visually impaired.
