For the first time in the history of Iraqi universities, the College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad entered the Times World Ranking of Majors for the year 2025 within the category of Communication and Media Studies, where the classification of communication and media studies is based on a methodology based on reliable performance indicators used in the Times Higher Education rankings of international universities, with methodological adjustments to meet the specificity of this specialization.
The methodology in this ranking is based on reliable data, including (157 million citations from academic publications, 18 million research publications, as well as the responses of 93,000 global researchers). The Ranking also aims to evaluate the academic and research performance of educational institutions in the field of communication and media studies, with a focus on the quality of education and innovation, and the impact of scientific research, and provides a global reference for students, researchers, and decision-makers to choose leading institutions in this vital field.
Commenting on this qualitative scientific achievement, the Dean of the College of Mass Communication, Prof. Ammar Taher, expressed his pride, saying: “The inclusion of the media major at the University of Baghdad in the Times World Ranking represents an international testimony to the quality of education and scientific research provided by the college.”
He added: (This great achievement was only a dream three years ago, we worked hard to achieve it with determination and determination, and today it is achieved thanks to the exceptional efforts made by the college’s professors, researchers, and students). Taher continued, that (the entry of the College of Mass Communication to this global ranking would not have become a reality without the continuous support of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, and the presidency of the University of Baghdad represented by the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Bahaa Ibraheem Ansaf, and the scientific and administrative assistants of the university).
The entry of the College of Media to the Times ranking represents a qualitative step in its scientific career and confirms its academic leadership and important role in the development of media studies at the local and international levels. This global recognition paves the way for more future achievements that consolidate the position of the Iraqi media on the global map.
