Prof.Dr. Abdullah Daya, a faculty member at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Baghdad, has won the Edison Award for Inventions and the Golden Scientific Creativity Medal for his innovative method to develop electric elevators using tanks and weights.
This achievement occurred during his participation in the Third International Exhibition for Inventions and Innovations, held at Zakho University, College of Engineering, in collaboration with the Harvest of Light Organization for Education Development in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The invention involves the development of an electric elevator that relies on compressors and compressed air tanks. The elevator can ascend or descend without the need for the main electric motor, operating by pumping or releasing air from the tanks using flexible plastic tubes. This allows the elevator to control its weight as needed using the force of gravity. The air tanks and compressor can also be replaced by weights ranging from 5% to 10% of the cabin’s weight.
