Prof. Dr. Hassan Mendeel Hassan al-Akili, a professor of Arabic language at the college of education for women has participated in the International Conference of the University of Human Development (UHD) in Sulaimaniyah, entitled “Building peace and preventing genocide”, in cooperation with nine universities, scientific institutions and research centers including the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, the University of Baghdad, the House of Wisdom and the Martyrs Foundation and the Political Prisoners Foundation of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, Koya University, Halabja University, and the Research Center of Charmo University.
The proceedings of this event witnessed the presentation of more than (75) research papers with the participation of researchers from Iraqi, Arab and international universities such as Iran, Jordan, Rwanda, US and UK, in the field of ideologies and genocide, the influence of humanities, laws, constitutions, curricula and education in the upbringing of the new generation, as well as the promotion of peace-building and tolerance, and peaceful coexistence between religious and national components to serve society, cohesion and belonging to a civilized identity. Dr. Hassan Mendeel presented a research entitled (War of Shrines and Mosques) in which he addressed threating the places of worship, shrines, mosques and churches in 2014 in Iraq, particularly in the risky provinces, which was an organized targeting of the holy places of Muslims and non-Muslims in order to ignite sectarian strife and divide the one Iraqi people, which derives its roots from extremist ideology. The attendees interacted with the information provided by the professors and showed their observations and feedback, which contributed to the enrichment of sessions.
