The College of Arts at the University of Baghdad has organized the first Japanese conversation competition for its students in cooperation with the Japanese Embassy in Iraq and Al-Qiyem Private Elementary School. The competition began with a speech given by the dean of the college Prof. Dr. Abdullah Sabbar Abboud in which he pointed out that this competition coincided with the anniversary of the 17th anniversary of academic cooperation between college of arts and a number of Japanese universities, in order to learn about the other’s culture, increase knowledge exchange and develop the skills of students in practicing Japanese language at the department of English.
The participants discussed the prospects of scholarship between the two sides based on the desired scientific sobriety, as well as selecting three winners from this event to be honored. For his part, the Japanese Ambassador to Iraq Mr. Suzuki Kotaro expressed his happiness for the outstanding efforts exerted by the students of the college of arts in learning foreign languages, where the students from the department of English language Maram Mutie won the first place along with the student Hummam Jumaa from Al-Qiyem Private School.
