The University of Baghdad honored its academic units that achieved top rankings in university student activities during a ceremony held in conjunction with the University Council meeting. The event celebrated the university’s attainment of first place in the ministerial classification of student activities, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Iraqi universities.
During the session, the winning colleges were awarded the Shield of Excellence. Professor Dr. Bahaa Ibraheem Ansaf, President of the University of Baghdad, presented the awards to the colleges that secured leading positions: the College of Medicine ranked first, followed by the College of Media in second place. The College of Al-Kindy Medicine earned third place in the mixed student category, while the College of Administration and Economics secured third place in the female student category.
The university president emphasized that this achievement reflects the spirit of excellence and leadership that characterizes the University of Baghdad. He praised the efforts of the students and the support provided by faculty and administrative staff, affirming that the university administration will continue to promote this approach by supporting student activities aimed at developing skills and nurturing talents, contributing to the graduation of well-rounded individuals both academically and personally.
Professor Dr. Raghad Abdul Razzaq Al-Hashemi, Assistant President for Administrative Affairs, noted that student activities are an integral part of the university environment. They foster awareness and a sense of belonging and are considered a key pillar in shaping a balanced academic personality. He affirmed the university’s ongoing commitment to providing all forms of logistical and moral support to students.
Dr. Ali Sadiq Thiyab, Director of the Student Activities Department at the university presidency, explained that the University of Baghdad’s first-place ranking among Iraqi universities was achieved thanks to the breadth of participation and diversity of activities, including artistic, cultural, volunteer, and athletic events. This reflects institutional excellence and active engagement across all university units.
