The President of the University of Baghdad, Prof.Dr. Bahaa Ibraheem Ansaf, received His Excellency Anıl Bora İnan, the Turkish Ambassador to Iraq, and his accompanying delegation. The meeting included extensive discussions on ways to strengthen bilateral relations in the fields of education, culture, and science. The meeting was also attended by Prof.Dr. Suhail Najm Abdullah, Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Prof.Dr. Ali Adnan Mashoush, Dean of the College of Languages, and Prof.Dr. Inas Khalifa Al-Sharqi, Director of the Department of Scholarships and Cultural Relations.

During the meeting, Ambassador İnan expressed his country’s commitment to enhancing academic cooperation with Iraq. He proposed the establishment of branches of Turkish universities in Iraq, in addition to supporting partnership and exchange programs between Iraqi and Turkish universities.

In response, Prof.Dr. Bahaa welcomed the proposals and presented an overview of the Colleges of Artificial Intelligence and Excellence. He also encouraged Turkish students to apply through the “Study in Iraq” program and expressed the university’s willingness to explore the possibility of opening branches of Iraqi universities in Turkey.

The meeting also addressed the importance of cooperation in tackling climate and water-related challenges, with emphasis on developing the College of Agriculture to respond to such issues. It further included discussions on involving the Turkish side in science and technology park projects.

Ambassador İnan showed particular interest in artificial intelligence technologies as well as the artistic and cultural activities at the University of Baghdad. He expressed a desire to strengthen Turkish cultural participation in the university’s festivals and exhibitions. The meeting concluded with an agreement on the importance of finalizing the signing of memorandums of understanding between both sides as part of the ongoing academic cooperation between Iraq and Turkey.

This meeting supports two key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 4: Quality Education, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
