The University of Baghdad has achieved a new milestone in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025, which evaluates the global commitment of universities to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The university secured a distinguished position in the 601–800 global bracket out of 2,526 participating institutions from 130 countries.
Participating in nine development goals, the university attained notable rankings across several SDGs. Most prominently, it ranked in the 201–300 global category and first nationally in Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. This progress is a direct reflection of the academic strategy embraced by the university to support innovation-focused infrastructure. It aligns with the university’s broader vision of fostering entrepreneurship and innovation through excellence in education, academic publishing, and community service.
This accomplishment coincides with the university’s efforts to establish Iraq’s first Science and Technology Park—an ambitious initiative to empower entrepreneurial ventures and cultivate a sustainable environment for academic and technological innovation. This initiative is expected to contribute to developing a modern scientific ecosystem that supports innovation and entrepreneurship while addressing local and global labor market demands.
The University of Baghdad also achieved high rankings in other SDGs, including Goal 2: Zero Hunger (201–300 globally, first nationally), and Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production (301–400 globally, tied for first nationally). Additionally, it earned commendable positions in several other goals: Goal 1 (No Poverty), Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
This advancement clearly indicates the transformation of the University of Baghdad into a higher education and research institution with tangible impact on both community and environmental development.
