University of Baghdad Launches Awareness Campaign on Occasion of Global Media and Information Literacy Week

The Department of Media and Government Communication at the Presidency of the University of Baghdad held an awareness campaign on the occasion of Global Media and Information Literacy Week, with the participation of a number of the department’s staff. The campaign reflects the university’s commitment to strengthening media and information awareness and consolidating a culture of responsible and informed use of the media and digital platforms.

The campaign aimed to develop students’ critical thinking and information verification skills, strengthen their ability to distinguish between accurate and misleading news, and counter rumors and false information. It also sought to raise awareness of the risks of manipulating digital content and of artificial intelligence technologies, and of the importance of adhering to the ethics of publishing and circulating content on electronic platforms.

This initiative comes in line with the University of Baghdad’s orientation toward spreading media and information literacy among the university community and preparing a generation with the awareness and ability to deal critically and responsibly with rapid media and technological developments.

This activity contributes to achieving a number of the Sustainable Development Goals, namely Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), in addition to Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
