Summary

The great development and acceleration in the uses of information technology has led to a significant growth in the volume of digital information produced and traded every day. Despite the expanding volume of data, still there is a need to resort to solutions that are designed to compress data before storage or transmission over digital messaging channels. The proposed method in this article aims to achieve better compression for data that are characterized by the fact that their behavior is subject to statistical diminishing exponential distributions. This proposed method is considered a hybrid one since it works to remove excess information in data through:

  1. Use of variable length coding to address variance in frequency of occurrence of icons in pictures.
  2. Use of interconnection in some pairs of icons.
