The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad organized a scientific symposium entitled (Analysis of Scientific Research Indicators of the University of Baghdad according to the WOS Repository) presented by the Director of the Quality Assurance and University Performance Department at the University Presidency, Dr. Omar Faleh Hassan, in the presence of the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Raghad Abdul Razzaq Al-Hashemi, a number of deans of university formations, officials of quality assurance units and a group of teachers.
The symposium highlighted the criteria and indicators adopted by the Shanghai World Ranking in evaluating universities and disciplines, as the Shanghai Ranking is one of the most accredited academic classifications in the world and focuses on academic and research performance, and the ranking criteria include the recipients of international awards such as the Nobel Prize and the ratio of references to research published in reputable international journals, as well as the number of research published in the world’s top journals.
The symposium also included important topics, most notably the analysis of strengths and weaknesses to evaluate the performance of the colleges of the University of Baghdad in various disciplines in each index and review ways to improve scientific indicators to ensure entry to the ranking, in addition to identifying strengths and weaknesses.
The symposium recommended encouraging teachers to increase scientific publishing in reputable and sober journals in line with the number of university teachers and the location and historical status of the university, and to develop a clear policy to educate teachers and graduate students about the mechanisms of correct citations to enhance the university’s position in international rankings, and to recommend the independence of the institution in administrative and financial terms to reduce the burdens on teachers, allowing them to focus on scientific research and provide financial support for scientific publishing through the university’s fund dedicated to supporting researchers and academic activities, as well as the formation of Multidisciplinary research teams to enhance the quality of research and advance the scientific level of the college and university.
This symposium emphasizes the importance of developing the academic and research performance of the university in a way that enhances its position in international rankings and reflects its ancient history and scientific contributions.
