The Department of Psychology, in cooperation with the Scientific Affairs Unit at the College of Arts at the University of Baghdad and in cooperation with the Iraqi Society, organized a scientific symposium on (Addressing the problems of youth: drugs, unemployment, suicide, alienation / a condition for achieving community security and building the state), in the presence of the Dean of the College of Arts, Prof. Dr. Ali Abdul Amir, and a number of college employees.
The seminar, which was presented by Prof. Dr. Qassim Hussein Saleh, President of the Iraqi Psychological Society, aimed to open a wider door for the activity of the College of Arts in studying the issues of Iraqi society such as the concept of societal, political and economic security and alienation: the concept and theorizing of youth unemployment in Iraq, drugs and the most dangerous abuse of young people and what are their types and what are the local reasons for their prevalence and their physical, psychological and social effects.
The most prominent recommendations of the symposium included the unification of the efforts of institutions concerned with mental health, and the development of a scientific plan aimed at reducing drug abuse and suicide, as well as inviting the departments of psychology, psychological counseling, and educational guidance, and sociology in Iraqi universities to coordinate among themselves to deal with the phenomenon of suicide in university circles, and to provide specialized programs aimed at solving problems with a psychological vision.
