The Department of Astronomy and Space, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, held a workshop entitled “Requirements for the Application of the Bologna Process” under the auspices of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Faleh Hassan, and the supervision of the Head of the Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Abdullah Kamel Ahmed, and the presence of a number of teachers and those concerned with curricula and education.
The workshop aimed to introduce the Bologna track, adopted by most European countries in higher education, and its objectives. These include transitioning to a three-level educational system (bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate) by enhancing quality control and ease of identification of study and qualifications.
The workshop, which was presented by Prof. Dr. Bushra Qassem, Dr. Fouad Mahmoud Abdullah, and Dr. Anas Salman, included the necessary call to raise education standards and better reconcile academia with the needs of the labor market, indicating the importance of exploring the different dimensions of modernizing and developing higher education systems in Iraqi universities, indicating that the student must be given a key role in the improvement process within the Bologna Process, which aims to improve higher education through a student platform to engage in the development of their studies. As well as reviewing the curriculum guide, description of the subject, regulations, and laws for the student and teacher, and the electronic student system.
