The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Baghdad hosted a meeting of the Higher Committee for Animal Genetic Improvement, chaired by Prof.Dr. Abdul Ameer Abdullah Issa, Director of the Genetic Resource Protection Department. The meeting included heads of various research and administrative departments from the Ministry of Agriculture and was attended by several faculty members specializing in relevant fields to discuss the projects proposed by the committee for the homeschooling of the Iraqi Reem gazelle.
The meeting addressed strategies to reduce the risk of extinction of the Iraqi Reem gazelle, as well as discussions on the broiler chicken project to make it available for home breeding and to meet market demand for table eggs.
The meeting emphasized the importance of scientific and administrative collaboration between the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Agriculture to enhance scientific cooperation aimed at developing and protecting Iraqi species of both wild and domesticated animals.
