The College of Science for Women, through its Continuing Education Unit and in collaboration with the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Baghdad, organized a workshop titled “The Role of Universities in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals.” The event was presented by Assist. Prof.Dr. Adil Hussein Talib, the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Assist.Prof.Dr. Salah Khairi Jabir, and several faculty members and staff of the college.
The activity aimed to introduce the concept of sustainable development, defined as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The goals of sustainable development include managing renewable natural resources to improve the quality of life for the world’s population by enhancing living conditions and ensuring the efficient distribution of economic growth benefits through high-quality investment patterns. This approach emphasizes maintaining environmental balance and the continuity of natural resources.
The workshop also addressed the dimensions of sustainable development, including economic, social, environmental, and institutional-technical aspects, and highlighted the role of education in achieving sustainable development goals
