The College of Science for Women, in collaboration with the Department of Physics at the University of Baghdad, organized a workshop titled “Some Applications of Lasers in Dermatology.”
The event aimed to introduce lasers, their sources, specifications, advantages, optical properties, and small size, which leads to high energy output and brightness intensity that can be millions of times greater than that of electric lamps. Lasers consist of a very narrow beam from a wide spectrum of frequencies, which have been employed in various fields, including medicine, with a particular focus on dermatology.
The activity highlighted the most important laser applications in treatment and cosmetic procedures, including hair removal, tattoo removal, freckle removal, as well as the removal of acne, wrinkles, boils, and other skin conditions and imperfections.
The workshop also discussed therapeutic applications for treating vitiligo, photodynamic therapy, and the use of the CARS (Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering) method, a modern and advanced technique for early and highly accurate detection of cancerous diseases.
