The College of Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Baghdad, in collaboration with the Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries, College of Architecture, held a focused scientific lecture titled “Chemical Process Flowsheet Simulation with COCO and ChemSep.” The lecture was delivered by Assist.Prof.Bassim Hafidh Fadel from the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Baghdad, as part of the lecture series “Software in Chemical Engineering,” conducted via the Google Meet platform. The lecture witnessed outstanding attendance and significant interaction from students and academics, who praised the rich scientific content and the interactive approach used in delivering the subject matter.
The lecture aimed to enhance knowledge and practical application of software tools in the field of chemical engineering, focusing on simulating chemical process flowsheets using COCO and ChemSep software. It explained how these tools are used in the design and analysis of chemical processes, thereby improving students’ understanding of their practical applications.
The lecturer emphasized the importance of process simulation software in fostering design efficiency, operational effectiveness, and cost reduction. He underscored the necessity of enhancing students’ skills in this area to keep pace with modern technological advancements.
At the conclusion of the lecture, several recommendations were presented, including the necessity for continuous engagement with the latest software and technologies in the field of chemical engineering. Encouragement was also given for research and development in the use of simulation tools to strengthen industrial processes. There was an emphasis on the importance of scientific collaboration between departments and universities to exchange experiences and knowledge, thereby reinforcing academic and research capabilities.
