The Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies / University of Baghdad organized a special symposium on the causes and treatment of destructive phenomena in the liberated areas, in cooperation with the Office of the Prime Minister and the Popular Mobilization Authority.

The Dean of the Institute, Assistant Professor Dr. Saif Dawood Al-Ahmar, received in his office the delegation consisting of the representative of the Advisory Office for Liberated Areas Affairs, Dr. Haider Alwan Al-Saadi, and the Assistant Director of the Department of Combating Intellectual Terrorism in the Popular Mobilization Authority, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Nouri Al-Hatami, if the visiting delegation stressed the importance of the role of educational and university institutions in combating extremism, educating members of society about it, and confronting the ideas that occur to it in one way or another.

The Assistant Director of the Department of Combating Intellectual Terrorism in the Popular Mobilization Authority, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Nouri Al-Hatami, explained the concept of extremism in language and idiomatically, and also focused on the role of man and his ability to be affected and influenced, citing the noble Quranic verses and the blessed hadiths of the Prophet, and also pointed to the danger of extremism and its impact on the circumstances that Iraq went through and its stand in the face of development and progress in the country.

Sheikh Al-Hatami stressed the importance of the role of the state and its multiple institutions, including universities, colleges, institutes, and its researchers in curbing extremism and confronting what he called “intellectual ruin” by holding special seminars.

He also talked about the causes of extremism, and he pointed out that among them are divisions in the world and the attempt of other to undermine the ideas of others, and this is contrary to wisdom and moderation, which are important foundations in Islam and Islamic law, in addition to the wrong understanding of Islamic texts and the provisions of Sharia and the use of Quranic verses and hadiths in their incorrect position, in addition to the existence of economic reasons.

In turn, the representative of the Advisory Office for Liberated Areas Affairs, Dr. Haider Alwan Al-Saadi, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Deanship of the Institute of Genetic Engineering for hosting the seminar. The symposium recommended raising awareness among individuals of the ideas necessary to confront extremism, as well as spreading peace among individuals through educational and religious institutions, as well as developing the intellectual dialogue of the individual.
