The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad organized a scientific symposium entitled Radioactive Pollution and its Impact on the Environment and Humans, delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Iman Turki and Assistant Professor Dr. Abeer Khalid, in the presence of a number of teachers in the college.
The symposium aimed to introduce the meaning of radioactive contamination and the natural and human sources of radioactive contamination. The symposium also included many axes, including a full explanation of the effects of radioactive pollution on the environment and the biological effects of ionizing radiation on the human body, as well as clarifying the effects of human exposure to electromagnetic fields resulting from wireless radiation emitted from mobile network towers, which lead to many health and environmental problems.
In conclusion, the symposium recommended the need to raise awareness on how to take preventive measures against radiation and how to deal in the event of a radiation emergency, as well as to identify the controls when installing communication towers to ensure the safety and health of citizens and to spare them harm in the future from the serious health effects resulting from the reinforcement towers.
