The Department of Quality Assurance and Academic Performance at the University of Baghdad convened a workshop titled “Measuring Learning Outcomes for Academic Programs.” The workshop featured a presentation by Dr. Salam Al-Rubai, an expert and evaluator affiliated with the ABET accreditation program. Attendees included deputy deans responsible for academic affairs, heads of scientific departments, members of institutional and programmatic accreditation committees, as well as a number of faculty members.
The workshop took place in the conference hall of the College of Science for women, addressed several pivotal topics, including the definition of international accreditation standards set by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology), with a focus on their applicability to engineering and technical departments. Moreover, discussions revolved around aligning learning outcomes for academic programs in applied scientific disciplines with educational quality and program objectives. The activity also delved into the methodology for measuring learning outcomes in accordance with predefined educational objectives for practical lessons
This workshop is part of the University of Baghdad’s commitment to promoting national institutional and programmatic accreditation culture and implementing its standards. It aims to enhance the university faculty’s awareness of these requirements, with a primary focus on measuring learning outcomes for academic programs. Through these efforts, the university seeks to bolster the quality of education provided to its students and refine its academic programs to align with the highest international standards. Ultimately, the goal is to prepare graduates capable of competing in the global job market.
