The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Engineering College held a symposium titled “Soft Skills and their Relevance to the Job Market,” delivered by Prof.Dr. Fathi Mohammed Al-Shamma, a faculty member.

The symposium addressed the significance of soft skills and their vital role in preparing graduates for the job market. It was highlighted that while hard skills constitute 15% of qualifications and experience, soft skills represent 85% of the requirements of the job market. The activity covered several topics, including an introduction to soft skills and their significance, methods of developing them, and a discussion on the differences between soft and hard skills.

At the conclusion of the event, the lecturer presented the key methods that contribute to the development and enhancement of soft skills. These methods include identifying individual weaknesses in skills and focusing on their development, exploring targeted skills through reading, research, and engagement in programs and training courses aimed at skill development. Furthermore, interacting with individuals who possess such skills, benefiting from them, continuous practice, training on new skills, and disseminating and teaching these skills to those around them were emphasized.

It is worth mentioning that the College of Engineering in our university places significant importance on organizing seminars and workshops targeting its students, aiming to enhance and develop their soft skills and prepare them to meet the evolving requirements of the job market.
