The Department of Astronomy and Space, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, held a panel discussion entitled “CVRHS Classification of Galaxies”, under the auspices of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Faleh Hassan, and the presence of a number of students, teachers and those concerned with astronomical affairs.

The panel discussion aimed to review the types of classifications of galaxy types and their evolution with the development of astronomy and observational technologies such as telescopes and imaging devices. It also aimed to review the importance of classifying galaxies to understand the multiple types of galaxies.

The panel discussion, which was lectured by Assistant Professor Dr. Abdullah Kamel and Dr. Haider Reda, recommended studying the understanding of basic structure of the universe represented by galaxies, which helps to understand the past, present, and future of the universe, discussing the shape characteristics of each type of galaxies in detail from the beginning of the first classification type issued by Hubble in 1926 to the latest available classification, which represents an extension of the Hubble classification, but with multiple improvements made by many scientists.
