Under the patronage of the Dean of the Institute Laser for Postgraduate Studies, Prof.Dr. Hussein Ali Jawad, and in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 13: Climate Action, which focuses on safeguarding the Earth’s environment and climate, the Institute Laser for Postgraduate Studies organized a workshop on afforestation and its correlation with climate change. This event coincided with the “National Afforestation Day” initiated by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani.

The workshop featured a lecture delivered by the head of the Afforestation Unit at the institute, Agricultural Engineer Zeinab Majid Hassouni. The lecture elucidated the importance of afforestation, highlighting it as a vital method for environmental preservation. Afforestation plays a pivotal role in reducing air pollution, mitigating temperature rise, and ameliorating climatic conditions. Trees serve as integral elements in environmental conservation, and afforestation is viewed as a moral and societal obligation to safeguard land, soil, and climate. Thus, the objective of afforestation is to promote environmental balance on a broader scale.
