The College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad ranked first locally, twenty-second in the Arab world, and forty-second in the Middle East within the Scimago ranking of universities, which is one of the most famous academic rankings in the world and is issued by the Spanish Scientific Research Council, under the supervision and efforts of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Adel Al-Budaiwi.

Scimago’s ranking is based on five main criteria, most notably research production through the number of scientific publications published by faculty members at the university, as well as international cooperation in terms of the percentage of scientific publications authored in cooperation with researchers from other universities, as well as research impact through the number of citations of scientific publications published by faculty members at the university, as well as innovation in terms of the number of patents that have been registered. By the university, the last criterion is societal impact through the university’s contribution to society through activities such as continuing education and outreach programs.

The Scimago ranking is one of the most popular academic rankings in the world, as it is used by students and researchers to choose the universities they want to study or work in, and by universities to evaluate their performance and improve the quality of their research programs. The Scimago ranking does not rank all universities in the world, only universities with sufficient research output are included.
