Prof.Dr. Manal Al-Kubaisi, Director of the Department of Studies and Planning at the University of Baghdad, contributed a scholarly paper to the Future University Week for Sustainability, organized by Future University from February 17 to 22, 2024. The paper delved into the Iraqi Development road (Silk Road) as an ambitious strategic project, examining its contributions to Iraq and its role in bolstering Iraq’s position in the realm of trade and economics. Furthermore, the research explored the project’s significance in attaining the sustainable development objectives outlined by the United Nations in 2015, as well as the role of universities in its support.

The research paper put forward several recommendations for enhancing the role of universities in promoting sustainability in Iraq. These include bolstering scientific research to generate more knowledge and new innovations that contribute to economic growth, fostering collaboration with local and international industries, companies, and entrepreneurs to launch commercial projects and job opportunities aimed at mitigating poverty and unemployment in Iraq, and fostering social development through the involvement of academics and students in creating social projects that contribute to achieving sustainable development, economic growth, and improving living conditions in rural areas. The paper presented by Al-Kubaisi garnered significant interest from participants in the Future University Sustainability Week, underscoring the crucial role of universities in promoting sustainability in Iraq.
