The College of Arts at the University of Baghdad held a scientific conference titled “Anthropology Day in Iraq” in its first edition. The conference was attended by the Dean of the College of Arts, Prof.Dr. Ali Abdulameer Sajet, along with several faculty members and students.

The conference aimed to provide a serious and responsible scientific stance on the reality of this science in Iraq. Additionally, it sought to explore the intellectual, methodological, and practical trends of anthropology. The conference aimed to serve as a platform for researchers and official institutions in Iraq, encouraging them to activate the roles of anthropology and benefit from its contributions across various aspects of Iraqi life.

The conference covered several key topics, including the foundational contexts of anthropological research in Iraq, the intellectual and methodological trends of anthropological research in Iraq, and an examination of the dialectics of anthropological discourse.

This conference is considered the first of its kind in the scientific history of Iraq since the Iraqi scholar, Prof.Dr. Shakir Mustafa Salim, embarked on his thesis in 1953 titled “Al-Jabayish: An Anthropological Study of a Village in the Marshes of Iraq.”
