The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, chaired the meeting of the Higher Ministerial Committee to host the activities of the 56th session of the Arab Universities Union, scheduled to take place in the Baghdad in March 2024. The meeting was attended by the Rector of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Munir Hameed Al-Saadi, along with several of deputies, university presidents, and general directors.

Al-Aboudi directed the formation of scientific, technical, and logistical committees to organize and complete the roadmap for hosting this significant event, where universities and scientific institutions under the Arab Universities Union will participate. He emphasized that this edition coincides with the anniversary of the union’s founding, highlighting the importance of fostering conducive environments for collaboration among universities in scientific knowledge, serving as an effective tool for development. He noted that Iraq and its institutions carry a rich scientific history, making them worthy hosts for the activities of the Arab Universities Union.

Indeed, the Arab Universities Union is a non-governmental organization with independent legal status. It includes a membership of over 450 Arab universities and was founded in 1964 based on a decision by the Arab League. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has been chosen as the permanent headquarters for the Union’s General Secretariat since 1984.
