Prof.Dr. Jamal Baqir Muttalak, a faculty member at the Center for Urban and Regional Planning for Post Graduate Studies at the University of Baghdad, participated as a consulting expert in the preparation of the Five-Year National Development Plan (2024-2028). The plan was prepared in collaboration with the Ministry of Planning, with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Nations Development Programme.

In the same context, Dr. Muttalak participated in the sessions of the first conference for the preparation of the Five-Year National Development Plan organized by the Ministry of Planning. The conference aimed to discuss the current state of spatial and rural development, identify development priorities, and emphasize the improvement of basic services and infrastructure in provinces. Dr. Muttalak highlighted the importance of comprehensive spatial development, enhancing social and economic conditions in rural areas, as well as organizing the structure of human settlements in Iraq to address population distribution imbalances.

Dr. Matlak emphasized that discussions have taken place regarding the establishment of new sustainable cities that meets the economic, social, and urban needs of the population. In addition, there has been a study on the expansions of the basic plans of cities. The participating experts were honored with shields appreciation presented by Dr. Maher Hamad Johan, the Ministry’s Planning Deputy.
