The University of Baghdad held its second meeting of the Industrial Advisory Council, chaired by the Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Munir Hameed Al-Saadi. The meeting was attended by the Assistant Rector for Scientific Affairs, the Director of the Quality Assurance and Academic Performance Department, deans of the colleges of Medicine, Management, Education, Agricultural Engineering, and the University Council Secretary. Also present were Mr. Adel Akab, the President of the Iraqi Industries Union, the Deputy Head of the Iraqi Engineers Syndicate, and representatives from the Media and Communications Authority.

The discussion during the meeting revolved around the labor market and its significant challenges. There was a focus on updating and improving academic curricula to meet the demands of the workforce. The council is committed to advancing the scientific landscape, enhancing the educational process, and strengthening research in line with global developments in education. This is part of an effort to reinforce the university’s values, emphasizing skills and education.

In his speech, Al-Saadi highlighted that the Advisory Council is a thinking cell, emphasizing the duty to establish a philosophy and policy for goal setting. He stressed the importance of focusing on methodology when crafting proposals and underscored the significance of prioritizing clean energy, environment, and sustainable development specialties.

It’s worth noting that the Industrial Advisory Council was adopted by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research as part of the Bologna Process. This initiative aims to enrich the labor market and establish genuine partnerships between educational institutions and government ministries. Building partnerships aligns with Goal 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals.
