The Seismic Monitoring and Spatial Data Analysis Lab for Postgraduate Studies at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, has issued a detailed report on the recent seismic activity, including earthquakes in Herat, northern Afghanistan (Magnitude: 6.3), Bandar Abbas, southern Iran (Magnitude: 5.5), and Mindanao, southern Philippines (Magnitude: 5.9).
The issuance of these reports is a result of the Seismic Monitoring Lab at the College of Science’s capabilities in analyzing seismic activities and processing earthquake data gathered from monitoring stations distributed across several provinces. Additionally, the lab’s tasks include spatial data analysis using satellite imagery, providing insights, and making predictions about future occurrences.
It’s worth mentioning that the Seismic Monitoring and Data Analysis Lab for Postgraduate Studies at the College of Science installed the first seismic recording device. Its capabilities include analyzing data from seven seismic recording devices located in various provinces across Iraq. A specialized seismic monitoring team is responsible for monthly storage, classification, and analysis of the collected data.
