Within the activities of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the Department of Animal Production organized the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad a scientific lecture entitled (Fish Farming in Rice Fields for the First Time in Iraq) delivered by the teaching professor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shaker Mahmoud Al-Khashali in the presence of the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Amira Muhammad Saleh, the head of the department, Prof. Dr. Hussam Jassim Hussein, and a number of college members in the department.

The lecture dealt with a detailed explanation of the importance of this study, where Al-Khashali showed the conduct of four field experiments throughout the fields of the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad for four master’s students. The first study included determining the optimal culture density for the growth of farmed fish in rice fields and determining the optimal initial weight for the growth of farmed fish in rice fields. The third study dealt with the effect of organic fertilization on the growth of farmed fish in rice fields. The fourth study included breeding different types of fish in rice fields.

It must be noted that the above experiments and studies are the first of their kind conducted in Iraq and have been applied since 2018 and have given very good results on the basis of which these experiments can be generalized and applicable, as the above studies recommended this and encourage rice farmers and fish breeders to adopt this environmentally friendly practice.
