Within the activities of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the Department of Soil Science and Water Resources at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad organized a panel discussion entitled “Improving the Efficiency and Management of Water Use and Lettuce Productivity under Surface, Subsurface and Meadow Drip Irrigation Systems” delivered by the lecturer, Prof. Dr. Alaa Saleh Ati, in the presence of the head of the department, Assistant Professor Dr. Shatha Majid Nafawah, and a number of the department’s teachers and graduate students.

The lecture showed the importance of studying the estimation of seasonal water consumption of the lettuce crop under irrigation systems and the application of the promising cultivation method by planting two plant lines on one drip line and determining the method of cultivation and the best level of irrigation in lettuce productivity through comparison between different irrigation systems and studying growth indicators, total yield and water productivity under the management of irrigation systems at different irrigation levels.

The lecture recommended the need to conduct an evaluation of the irrigation system used and determine the optimal operating pressure and appropriate drainage and recommended the dissemination of the use of the single cultivation method by planting two plant lines on one drip line and the use of subsurface drip irrigation system for its moral results in reducing seasonal water consumption and increasing growth qualities.
