During the activities of the Global Entrepreneurship Week held by the University of Baghdad, the lecturer at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Talal Anwar Abdul Karim, gave a specialized scientific lecture entitled (Embryo Transfer Project for Cows in Iraq), in the presence of the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Amira Muhammad Saleh, the Head of the Department of Animal Production, Prof. Dr. Hussam Jassim Hussein, and a number of faculty members and graduate students.

The lecture indicated that this project, which was completed in cooperation between the Department of Livestock at the Ministry of Agriculture and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), which was launched in 2009 by importing frozen embryos of the New Zealand Holstein breed, aimed to adapt embryo transfer technology in Iraq and obtain genetically superior bulls used for semen collection purposes and the production of bronchos for artificial insemination of cows and be adapted to the Iraqi environment.

Through this technology, 45 births were obtained, including 18 calves and 27 wheels with distinct pure genetic structures, as well as 13 births from members of the first generation (from parents resulting from embryo transfer technology), including 9 calves and 4 wheels. 161, 691 semen reeds were obtained with a net profit of 403, 940, 118 IQD for the period from 2017 to 2019. The bulls resulting from embryo transfer technology and the first generation were evaluated in 2021 by a master’s student, and it was found that these bulls excelled in most semen traits compared to imported bulls, these results were published in research published in the Iraqi Journal of Agricultural Sciences.
