The Department of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized its first festival for World GIS Day in conjunction with Global Entrepreneurship Week. The festival, themed “Geographic Information Systems: A Crucial Foundation in Decision-Making,” aimed to enhance awareness and understanding of GIS and its role in society. The event included a variety of activities held in educational institutions, government agencies, and specialized organizations, shedding light on urban planning, environmental protection, natural resource management, navigation, geographic studies, and more.

The festival featured lectures delivered by Assist. Prof.Dr. Bushra Ali Ahmed, the head of the Department of Sensing and Geographic Information Systems, with a presentation titled “Geographic Information Systems and their Applications in Various Fields.” Additionally, Prof.Dr. Fuad Kazem Mashi delivered a lecture on “The Use of Geographic Information Systems in Crisis Management,” and researcher Saif Al-Allaq and student Fatima Jalal presented on “The Latest Technological Updates for Esri Company.”

The lectures addressed the latest technological advancements, sharing experiences, and exchanging ideas in the dynamic field, encouraging young individuals to explore Geographic Information Systems as a career path. The emphasis was on raising awareness about the importance of geographic information, understanding, conveying, and interacting among professionals and researchers in this vital field.
