The Quality Assurance and Academic Performance Department at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop in collaboration with the Supervision and Scientific Evaluation Apparatus at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The workshop aimed to shed light on the importance of global rankings, including the Shanghai Ranking. The event was attended by Officials from international ranking units at Babylon University, Al-Nahrain University, Thi-Qar University, Northern Technical University, and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

In his presentation during the workshop, Dr. Omar Falah Hassan, the Manager of the Quality Assurance and Academic Performance Department at the University of Baghdad, discussed the significance of global rankings and their impact on elevating universities’ global standings. The key topics covered included:

  • Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities: Gaining insight into the global landscape of university rankings.
  • Shanghai World Ranking by Academic Subjects: Exploring specialized disciplines and benchmarks.

Criteria for each ranking:

  • Calculation of Points: Demystifying the scoring process for a transparent assessment.
  • Success story: Celebrating the University of Baghdad’s remarkable appearance in the Shanghai Ranking for Chemical Engineering and Dentistry.
  • Identifying Weak Points: Collaborative efforts needed for continuous improvement.

Dr. Omar also delved into the experience of the University of Baghdad in achieving advanced positions in the Shanghai Ranking. The attendees praised Dr. Omar’s exceptional lecture and the roadmap presented by the University of Baghdad. This recognition underscores our commitment to maintaining a leadership role in higher education, enhancing global competitiveness, and advocating academic excellence

It’s worth noting that the University of Baghdad achieved a competitive position in the Shanghai Ranking for specific subjects. The 2023 results revealed the university’s success in the field of dentistry, considering indicators such as the quality of scientific research, international collaboration, and international awards.
