An Iraqi medical team under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul Nasser Hussein Al-Abdi, a clinical and therapeutic neurophysiologist at the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, succeeded in performing a complex surgery on a four-month-old infant. The operation involved lifting the full leg of the remains of a twin attached to the spine and spinal cord of the child who was suffering from a spinal warp and spinal cord deformity.

The operation was carried out using modern muscle and nerve function monitoring technology in order to ensure the preservation of the patient’s functions, and the absence of nerve and spinal cord injuries, as the operation was performed by the consultant surgeon Yoksel Yashar and the neurological activities were monitored under the supervision of Dr. Abdel Nasser Hussein Al-Abdi. This operation is one of the rare and complex operations that were covered by treatment outside the country, which can be performed in the Medical City to provide the necessary medical techniques and expertise.
