A delegation from the University of Baghdad, led by the Rector of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Munir AL-Saadi, Assistant Rector of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Ameer Faisal, and several deans of colleges within the university, attended the opening of the First International Conference on Synchrotron Applications and Modern Technologies in Scientific Research. The conference was also attended by His Excellency, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Chairman of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, the President of Al-Nahrain University, Professor Dr. Ali Al-Shawi, along with several deans, professors, and foreign guests.

During his keynote address, His Excellency announced that Iraq had officially joined the Council of the Global Center (SESAME) with the aim of excelling in scientific research. This move is intended to facilitate Iraqi researchers’ access to advanced scientific research opportunities and publishing in globally recognized journals with high impact factors, thus enhancing the academic reputation of universities and their global rankings. He emphasized that the collaboration between Iraqi scientific institutions and the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission, along with their dedication to scientific and technological progress, will greatly motivate efforts to improve the quality of studies, researchers, and results, ultimately serving the developmental needs of the country.

The opening activities of the conference, hosted by the College of Science at Al-Nahrain University in collaboration with the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission, included speeches by the President of Al-Nahrain University and the Dean of the College of Science. Additionally, a scientific session was held, featuring presentations by Arab and foreign researchers, as well as discussions on technologies and scientific capabilities presented by specialists from the Council of the International Center for Excellence in Scientific Research (SESAME).
